What Is Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic condition that occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.

The consequences of diabetes that endanger people's lives are heart problems and strokes. Other complications include blindness, kidney failure and amputations.

There is no cure for diabetes, but it is a controllable illness and its consequences can be prevented or postponed with discipline, control and proper treatment with work between the patient, his/her doctor and other health professionals.
